Star Wars
Rogue One & The Last Jedi
Senior Animatronic & Puppet Fabricator
In 2015 Darryl was invited to join Neal Scanlan’s Creature Effects Dept. and worked within the Creature Fabrication Dept supervised by Vanessa Bastyan.
His principle task involved the re-creation, fabrication & costume work on the legacy character Yoda, once again performed by puppeteer Frank Oz. Under Neal’s creative directorship, and working simultaneously alongside Sculptor Colin Jackson, Animatronics designer Steve Wright and Head Painter Henrik Svensson, months were spent prototyping, re-engineering, our version based on Stuart Freeborn’s original iconic character design- supported by rare and original material from the Lucas Film archive. All collaborated closely with Frank and his performance team during extensive rehearsals throughout the construction phase to the final night shoots. In addition to Yoda Darryl was involved on both prototype characters for Rogue 1 and a variety of the dozens of complex animatronic creatures / puppets that featured in the opulent Canto Bight Casino sequence in director Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. www.starwars.com

“Darryl, Often when a character is built it’s given to me to perform with only minor adjustments along the way. But you – you were always making it better. Always new ideas large and small how to make the body move and look better. You were amazing. And I’m grateful for all your caring work. Many Thanks”
